Italian fibre-optic coverage reaches 42% of households

Fibre-optic broadband technology was available in 42 percent of Italian households at the end of 2015, reports Il Sole 24 Ore, citing the latest figures from state-owned infrastructure firm Infratel. Although some 39.6 percent of households had access to fibre-optic broadband at speeds of up to 30 Mbps, only 10.17 percent of homes could access the internet at speeds of 100 Mbps broadband and above, said the report. The southern regions of Calabria and Campania led the ranking of 30 Mbps coverage, with 77.9 percent and 66.1 percent of homes covered, while the regions of Lombardy and Lazio led
