Italian fibre subscriptions still well behind EU average - study

A new study by the Institute for Competitiveness (I-Com) has revealed that Italian fixed broadband coverage soared from 43.9 percent in 2015 to 72.3 percent last year, closing the gap with the EU average to 3.7 percentage points. However, the country rose just one place – from 23rd to 22nd – on I-Com's Broadband Index due to the fact demand for new-generation fibre services still lags significantly behind the EU average. The study found fibre accounted for barely 3 percent of total broadband subscribers at the end of 2016, nearly 17 percentage points behind the EU average, with the country
