Italian mobile operators to develop NFC platform

Italian operators Telecom Italia, Vodafone Italia, Wind, 3 Italia and PosteMobile have signed an agreement for the development of a mobile payment platform based on NFC with the goal of guaranteeing full interoperability based on GSMA standards, according to a joint press release. The goal of the agreement is to set up a "national ecosystem" that permits the development and promotion of contactless payment services via smartphone. By the end of 2013, around 80 percent of smartphones should be equipped with NFC technology, while the number of shops equipped with POS terminals for contactless
