Italian Post introduces mobile payments via NFC

Wednesday 17 October 2012 | 14:01 CET | News
The Italian Post (Poste Italiane) has announced plans to launch a contactless payment system using NFC technology that will allow shopping in participating outlets and paying for purchases via mobile phone. This will be possible thanks to the integration of the communication services of PosteMobile, the MVNO operated by the Italian Post, and the BancoPosta payment system. Soon the NFC technology will also be available in post offices and on handhelds of computerised postmen to allow customers to pay bills, recommended letters or parcels by phone.
