Italy is still the country with the highest average viewing of linear content in Western Europe, at four hours and 40 minutes per person per day, according to data cited in a report conducted by TNS for Eutelsat Communications. In that context, satellite reception continues to consolidate its place in Italy’s TV market, reaching into 8.4 million homes, up 3 percent since Eutelsat’s 2013 survey. Eutelsat’s Hotbird satellites currently account for 7.4 million homes with a further 763,000 homes equipped to watch foreign-language channels from other Eutelsat neighbourhoods. As a result, some 95 percent of satellite homes in Italy are served by a Eutelsat satellite.

The report added that Italy’s satellite TV universe is the second most popular route to multi-channel viewing, with one in three of the 25 million TV homes opting for satellite reception while the IP base in urban districts has risen to 430,000 homes from 240,000 in 2013.
