Italy cuts VAT payable on e-books from 22% to 4%

Friday 21 November 2014 | 09:13 CET | News
The Italian government has passed an amendment to include e-books in the tax rebate on physical books, bringing down the VAT payable from 22 percent to 4 percent. The tax rebate on physical books was part of a package of measures passed earlier in the year called Destination Italy, and applied to all books with an ISBN purchased from bookshops. The amendment was welcomed by Dario Franceschini, Italy's culture minister, who described the decision as "a brave and correct choice by the government and parliament."
