Italy finalising CDP-led broadband plan – report

Italian government officials are finalising plans to create a joint company made up of all of the country's fixed line operators with a view to accelerating the development of a national high-speed fibre network, according to a report from Radiocor. Milan-based operator Metroweb could act as the vehicle for the government's plans, which could be implemented by state lender CDP (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti). CDP already has a 46 percent stake in Metroweb's holding company Metroweb Italia. The report indicates that top officials, including deputy general secretary Raffele Tiscar and
