Italy set to extend 'golden power' legislation to 5G networks - Lega

The Italian government intends to extend its so-called 'golden power' legislation aimed at protecting strategic industries to 5G infrastructure, according to a spokeswoman for the ruling Lega party cited by Reuters. The announcement comes ahead of a visit to Rome by Chinese president Xi Jinping and follows a series of statements issued by Italy's Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) designed to play down security concerns over spying by China linked to contracts awarded to Huawei and ZTE to build Italy's 5G network.
