Italy's competition watchdog to probe Cellnex acquisition of Hutchison towers

Italy's competition authority AGCM has announced the launch of a new investigation on antitrust grounds into the acquisition of the European tower business of CK Hutchison by Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex. The watchdog referred to the possible increased market power of Cellnex Italia that could serve to limit the replicability of rival mobile network operators in the passive infrastructure market and subsequent investment. It also expressed concerns about third-party hosting services, where Cellnex Italia would become the leading operator with a 70 percent share of the market
