Italy's Enel to invest EUR 4.7 bln by 2019 on digitalisation

Italian utility giant Enel has announced that it will spend nearly a quarter of the EUR 21 billion of investments included in its 2017-2019 strategy plan on digitising its grids to prepare for an internet-connected era. The state-controlled company, Europe's largest utility in terms of customers, said it would increase the number of IoT-enabled smart meters to 48 million by 2019, while also expanding smart grids to handle the intermittent flow of solar and wind energy.
