Italy's fibre subscriptions hit 348,000 in Dec 2010 - study

Italy remains one of the largest FTTH markets in Europe, with more than 2.5 million homes passed and 348,000 fibre subscribers at the end of December 2010, according to a study by Idate for the FTTH Council Europe. The number of fibre subscribers in Italy stands at just 13.7 percent of the total number of households passed. But the situation is set to improve if the 'Fibre for Italy' project goes ahead. The project, launched jointly by Fastweb, Vodafone and Wind, would bring FTTH within reach of 20 million people in Italy's fifteen largest cities by 2015. It began with a pilot concerning
