iWay grows FY revenues 22 percent, partners Google for cloud services

Thursday 14 March 2019 | 12:39 CET | News

iWay, a Swiss ISP based in Zurich, said it again posted double-digit revenue growth in 2018. Revenues increased by 22 percent to CHF 26 million. In the core segments of internet access and VoIP, the growth was 29 and 41 percent, respectively. Thanks to process optimisation, iWay also improved its profitability, so that EBITDA improved by 44 percent. Simultaneously with the FY results iWay announced launch of Zurich data centre services, based on a cooperation of the iWay parent company SAK (St. Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke) with Google.

The recently signed Cloud-Interconnect partnership between SAK and Google allows SAK's subsidiary iWay and RZO (Rechenzentrum Ostschweiz) to offer cloud services. iWay clients can thus extend their private enterprise networks with Google Cloud. The hybrid systems can optionally be sourced from RZO servers or Google data centres. iWay aims to develop its services further with Google in the field of cloud migration and infrastructure and will work towards the necessary Google certifications.

Through the certification as a Google Infrastructure and Cloud Migration Partner, iWay would complement its product portfolio for servers, virtual machines and storage, with automated container-based and SQL-DB products. iWay wants to serve as a one-stop shop for cloud services, including consulting for optimal use. The partnership with Google provides iWay also access to very specific services from the fast developing areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing, the company said.

The proven partner model of iWay, with currently 97 sales partners and 163 wholesale partners, remains an important pillar of the sales strategy of the full service ISP. In 2018, the revenues via partners increased by 27 percent to CHF 13.7 million, or 53 percent of the total revenues. The success of the partner business was also the effect of the automation service Virtual ISP, introduced in 2018. With the service Virtual ISP the wholesale partners set up and manage automated fibre and DSL orders on all city networks and the Swisscom network for their customers on a special partner portal, without having to set up network connections themselves or having to conclude contracts with Swisscom or other city networks.

In 2019, the company expects again double-digit growth, resulting from 20-25 percent growth in FTTH, higher transmission speeds in copper cables thank to technologies such as Gfast (up to 500 Mbps) as well as demand for VoIP telephony from both private and business customers.
