Just 6% of Mexican smartphone users download paid apps

Tuesday 21 August 2018 | 10:50 CET | News
Around 6 percent of Mexico's 101.8 million active smartphone users downloaded paid apps in the second quarter of 2018, according to a report by CIU. Some 6.5 million users bought apps, compared to 92.9 million who downloaded free apps, while 10.3 million downloaded apps with in-app purchases. However, the freemium model remained the most profitable for app developers, generating around MXN 1.8 billion in the quarter, compared to MXN 710.1 million for paid apps and the MXN 105.9 million gained by free apps via advertising.
