Japanese operator KDDI has selected Gilat Satellite Networks' satellite-based LTE cellular backhaul service to power its VoLTE service. KDDI will use Gilat's LTE cellular backhaul service to provide voice, data and video services at LTE speeds. Gilat's VSATs will be installed in fixed sites as well as on deployable vehicles for emergency response – cellular on wheels (COW). The service uses Gilat's LTE backhaul service and mobility features to support continuous service for public safety, in addition to the service provided in fixed LTE cellular sites. Hundreds of Gilat's VSATs will be deployed across Japan.
