KDDI to limit J:Com stake to 31%

Japanese operator KDDI has decided to acquire just 31.1 percent in cable operator J:Com in order to avoid a requirement for a public offer for the company. KDDI agreed to buy the stake from Liberty Global but drew scrutiny from the financial regulator when it first considered buying more a third of J:Com. Under their new agreement, Liberty will place 6.7 percent of its voting rights in J:Com with an outside trust before the transaction between Liberty and KDDI takes place on 19 February. Under the arrangement, KDDI will buy the entire ownership interest in Liberty Global Japan, Liberty Japan,
