Kenyan mobile payments drop KES 22 bln in August as political uncertainty dents business

Friday 27 October 2017 | 09:25 CET | News
The value of cash used to pay for goods and services through mobile money platforms dropped by KES 22.55 billion to KES 286.34 billion in August from KES 308.89 billion in July, according to the Central Bank of Kenya, highlighting a strain in people's purchasing power. This represents a 7.3 percent decline. Analysts have attributed the slowdown to political uncertainty in the country, which has resulted in a general decline in business activities.
