Kenyan mobile subscriptions rise 1% in Q3, school resumptions cause inactive SIMs

The number of active mobile phone subscriptions was 62.0 million in the third quarter ended 31 March, up by 0.9 percent from last quarter, according to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA). Mobile (SIM) penetration stood at 130.3 percent, up from 129.1 percent recorded in Q2. The number of SIM additions declined to 548,738 from 1.56 million net additions in the preceding quarter, as schools resumed education on site, leading to more inactive SIM cards.
