Klarna acquires German online payments provider Billpay

Sweden-based payments provider Klarna has acquired German online payment company BillPay. The latter was founded in 2009 with a Berlin headquarters, more than 140 employees, offering its services and products in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The acquisition is subject to approval by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority in Germany, no financial details were disclosed, but according to sources cited by Techcrunch, Klarna pays around EUR 60 million for BillPay to its parent Wonga, a UK-based provider of financial services.
