Korea adopts ATSC 3.0 standard for UHD TV broadcast

South Korea has selected the US-based Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 standard for its ultra-high-definition (UHD) television broadcasting, Yonhap news agency reports, citing a statement by Korea's Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning. South Korea plans to launch UHD TV broadcasting in February 2017. UHD TVs manufactured by Korean TV makers have so far been based on the DVB-T2 broadcasting system and will require a separate set-top box starting next year, the ministry also said.
