KRA collects KES 19.7 mln in airtime tax

Wednesday 24 April 2019 | 14:22 CET | News
Airtime tax collections hit KES19.7 billion in the nine months to March, new data from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) showed, according to Business Daily. The Finance Act of 2018 increased excise tax on airtime to 15 percent from 10 percent. Telecom operators passed down the costs to consumers in 2018, with mobile subscriptions increasing to 49.5 million by the end of 2018, amid concerns of lowered collection from other sources due to drought.
