LatAm fibre connections to hit 5.1 mln by year-end

The total number of fibre (FTTH/B) connections in Latin America is set to reach 5.1 million by the end of 2015, accounting for around 6.9 percent of broadband lines, up from 5.1 percent in 2014, according to a report by Pyramid Research. In fact, fibre connections are set to increase at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 34.9 percent over the next five years, far above the overall figure for fixed lines (2.1 percent CAGR). However, the report expects xDSL to remain the dominant broadband technology in Latin America in the next few years, still holding over 40 percent of all broadband
