Latin America set to produce 4,800 kt of e-waste by 2018

Latin America generated 9 percent of the world's electronic waste (e-waste) in 2014, according to a report from the GSMA and United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). Over the next four years, the 2014 total of 3,900 kilo tonnes (kt) is set to grow between 5 and 7 percent annually to reach almost 4,800 kt of e-waste by 2018, predicted the report, which focused above all on the opportunities associated with mobile phone collection and recycling.
