Human rights group Liberty has filed its legal challenge against the UK's Investigatory Powers Act. The group has opposed the wide-ranging powers in the act, in particular the ability of state authorities to conduct bulk surveillance of private communications. The challenge is being crowdfunded via CrowdJustice, and has received widespread public support. In January, Liberty raised more than GBP 50,000 from the public in less than a week. More than 200,000 people signed a petition calling for the Act's repeal after it passed late last year.
