Ligado files plan with FCC for hybrid 5G network

Ligado Networks (formerly LightSquared) has filed with the FCC details of a plan to use some of the 40 MHz of spectrum in holds in the 1.6 GHz band for a ground-based wireless network to "accelerate the move to 5G". The company's hybrid satellite-terrestrial network proposal includes using 10 MHz of spectrum closest to GPS transmission only for satellite communications and a promise to maintain transmission power at levels that would not cause interference with aircraft communications.
