Linkem aims to reach 90% of Italian population by 2016

Italian WiMax operator Linkem is aiming to reach 90 percent of the population by 2016, according to one of the company's major shareholders. In a statement issued by Linkem, Peter Cohen, who owns the Cowen Group, said that Linkem plans to compete with the normal fixed ADSL network, which is still slow in many areas of Italy and completely absent in others. He said that fees for internet and telephony are too expensive for 40 percent of the population, i.e. in areas not served by alternative operators to Telecom Italia.
