Linkem launches LTE trials on 3.5 GHz frequency

Italian WiMax operator Linkem has launched LTE trials on the 3.5 GHz frequency, according to CEO Davide Rota. In an interview with daily Corriere delle Comunicazioni, he said WiMax is a technology that is losing ground, with LTE being the best technology for the future. According to him, Linkem is testing various LTE vendors, starting with Huawei, adding that the operator plans to offer fixed broadband and not mobile telephony. He added that Linkem could commercially launch the service in the spring 2014. Rota said that Linkem currently has 1,200 WiMax antennae installed, equal to 31 percent
