LTE roaming traffic more than doubles in 2017 - BICS

Thursday 18 January 2018 | 14:43 CET | News
Worldwide LTE traffic more than doubled in 2017 and is set to rise by the same volume in 2018, according to a report by wholesale carrier BICS. A total of 562 operators offered LTE services at the end of December 2017, up 25 percent year on year, with LTE roaming taking off in Africa and surging 600-800 percent in the EU compared with 2016 thanks above all to the abolition of roaming fees in June. However, BICS added that around 20 percent of subscribers in the EU have yet to take advantage of the new roaming regulation, confirming a recent Eurostat survey.
