Thursday 17 May 2018 | 19:25 CET | News

Malta's telecommunications authority MCA and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing jointly launched a course aimed at enabling elderly persons without ICT skills to learn the basics of internet use. The programme is open to people who are 55 years and over. The course seeks to provide training on cost-effective communication tools such as Skype and email communication, as well as knowledge about using other popular platforms available on the internet such as Facebook and YouTube. Furthermore, the course addresses topics such as the ways in which to shop online in a safe manner and the basics of internet banking, among others.

The 8-hour course consists of 4 sessions of 2 hours each and will be offered free of charge. The training sessions will be held on tablets in the day centres for the elderly and will be delivered in Maltese by professional tutors.

Applications remain open until the 15 June and places will be offered on a first come first served basis. The training sessions will be expected to start after the closing date of application.
