Masmovil, Orange top Spain mobile number ports in December

Friday 12 January 2018 | 14:53 CET | News

The Masmovil group and Orange topped Spain’s mobile portability figures in December, a month that saw a total of 622,500 changes of operator, according to data published by website economiza.com. Masmovil’s main brand gained a total of 13,800 lines, while its Yoigo, Pepephone and LlamaYa brands added 16,500, 5,200 and 4,600 lines respectively for a net total of 40,100. Orange Spain also had a positive month, gaining a net total of 24,300 customers thanks above all to its Orange and Simyo brands.

The month’s big loser was Vodafone, which shed a total of 70,600 customers despite gains of 4,500 lines at its Lowi discount division. Movistar (Telefonica) fared somewhat better, with the 2,335 losses under the Movistar brand almost completely offset by the 2,300 customers gained by its Tuenti unit.

Ethnic MVNO Digi Mobil gained a further 9,000 new clients in December, followed by Republica Movil and Euskaltel’s Telecable brand with around 1,000. However, other MVNOs such as Carrefour, Lycamobile and Lebara shed 7,200, 5,900 and 2,700 clients respectively.
