Mediaset in talks with ProSiebenSat.1, waits on Vivendi decision

Tuesday 3 December 2019 | 09:46 CET | News
Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset has held its first top-level talks with ProSiebenSat.1 since increasing its stake in the German broadcaster to over 15 percent last month. Mediaset is now ProSieben’s largest investor and is seeking to persuade the German network to join the Netherlands-based Media for Europe (MFE) entity. Unnamed sources cited by Reuters described the talks between CEOs Pier Silvio Berlusconi and Max Conze as constructive and said a joint working group would look into the possible launch of ProSieben’s Joyn-branded streaming platform in Mediaset’s main markets of Italy and Spain.

Separately, Mediaset confirmed that an Italian judge has now agreed to hear Vivendi’s request to block the MFE project on 06 December after the companies failed to agree on an out of court settlement last week.
