Meo and Nowo agreement blocked EUR 5 mobile offer - report

The Portugal Competition Authority's fine of EUR 84 million against Altice Portugal's operator Meo was due in part for holding back cheaper offers on the mobile market. In the authority's final decision, to which daily Publico had access, it was concluded that the illegal non-compete agreement with Nowo was agreed at the level of the shareholders of the two companies and was in force throughout 2018. The agreement prevented the launch of a EUR 5 mobile offer that would have caused a price war, according to the conclusion of the Authority.
