Merkel reiterates 100% coverage with 50 Mbps in 2018 goal

German Prime Minister Angela Merkel has re-iterated that Germany will reach the goal of nationwide coverage of 50 Mbps broadband by the end of 2018. She made her remarks during a conference on digital development organized by her political party CDU/CSU. Merkel claimed that the coverage of 50 Mbps broadband stands at 75 percent and she also conceded that Germany is running behind with regards to FTTx coverage with other countries.
