Mexican filmmakers step up demands for OTT taxes

Mexican filmmakers have asked the government to levy taxes on over-the-top (OTT) providers of digital services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, reports local daily El Sol. The demands set out to the Commission of Culture and Cinematography of the Chamber of Deputies also included a requirement that 30 percent of content on OTT catalogues be created by Mexican or independent producers. "Any government that has a nation-specific project must invest to guarantee the access of its citizens to local production since otherwise they would only have foreign material, that is, basically American
