Mexican fixed broadband accesses up 37% to 16.7 mln since telecom reform

The total number of fixed broadband accesses in Mexico reached 16.7 million in September 2017, up 37 percent since the telecommunications reform of 2013-14, according to a report from regulator IFT. The country's fixed broadband penetration surged from 39 percent of households in June 2013 to 50 percent in September 2017, equivalent to a 28 percent growth. In terms of technology, the IFT's data showed copper-based fixed broadband accesses falling to 43.9 percent in Q3 2017, with cable accounting for 36.6 percent of accesses and fibre rising fast to 18.0 percent, or 3 million accesses.
