Mexican OTT platforms closing in on cable TV - study

Subscriptions to over-the-top (OTT) platforms in Mexico soared by 15 percent year on year to reach 7.7 million at the end of 2017, according to a report from the Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU). The figure means subscribers to OTT platforms are fast closing in on the number of cable TV users, which rose by 3 percent year on year to 8.15 million at the end of Q4. Pay-TV DTH remains the most popular platform with around 10.7 million subscribers at the end of December, said the report.
