Mexican telecoms overhaul causes costs slump

Mexico's wide-ranging overhaul of its telecoms industry has been identified as the main cause of an unexpected fall in the country's consumer prices. INEGI, the national statistics institute, announced on its website that prices dropped 0.19 percent in the first half of January even though most analysts had expected an increase. "What surprised us was the magnitude of the adjustment in telecommunications prices," Vector Casa de Bolsa analyst Rodolfo Navarrete told Bloomberg.
