Mexico prepaid user growth slows, top-up patterns changing

Tuesday 19 April 2016 | 17:55 CET | News
Mexico ended 2015 with 107.8 million mobile subscribers, of which 83.9 percent or 90.4 million used prepaid services, according to a report published by The Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU). This represents a 0.9 percent increase in prepaid, well below the 10.1 percent growth in postpaid users during the same period. The top-up market generated revenues of MXN 113.6 billion in 2015 (45.5% of total mobile revenues), down 6.1 percent annually. Changing consumption patterns led to a drop in ARPU from prepaid customers of 5.7 percent during Q1 2016.
