Mexico's state-run operator Telecomm announced that 25 companies have submitted an expression of interest for the design and operation of a satellite to provide support to the Morelos 3. Over 70 percent of the 25 companies are international operators including EchoStar, Intelsat, Eutelsat, Airbus, Boeing and Hughes, said Telecomm, adding that it will continue evaluating the conditions and different options with a view to achieving a successful outcome.

The new satellite will replace the Centenario, which was destroyed during a failed launch in 2015, and will be developed under a public-private partnership. The tender guidelines are due to be issued by the end of the year and the contract awarded by the middle of 2018.
