Mexico telecom investments hit USD 6.5 bln over past 3 years

Over USD 6.5 billion has been invested in Mexico's telecommunications sector in the last three years, according to the Secretary of Communications and Transport, Gerardo Ruiz Esparza. The minister added that the telecommunications industry recently announced further investments of USD 13.5 billion on top of the USD 7.5 billion due to be invested in the country's Shared Network. Over the past three years, the number of Mexicans connected to the internet has gone up from 41 million to 62 million, the mobile broadband penetration rate from 22 to 57 percent and the number of fixed broadband users
