Mexico's Megacable denied extension of 2.5 GHz concessions

Tuesday 24 May 2016 | 10:16 CET | News
Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has issued a decision confirming that cable operator Megacable will no longer be able to use its concessions in the 2.5 GHz band, reports local daily Cronica. Although Megacable has been using the concessions since 2000, the country's Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) recovered 130 MHz of frequency in the 2.5 GHz band back in 2013. Although Megacable sought up to USD 8 million for its investment in the band, the IFT rejected its application for an extension to its 2.5 GHz concessions in a 27 April ruling.
