Microsoft, Accenture create blockchain-based ID system

Microsoft and Accenture have announced that they're joining forces to develop a digital identity network using blockchain technology, as part of the United Nations-supported ID2020 project to provide legal identification to over 1.1 billion people worldwide with no official documents. A prototype of the system was unveiled at a recent summit of ID2020 in New York with the stated aim of establishing identity for the one-sixth of the world's population who cannot participate in cultural, political, economic and social life because they lack documented proof of their existence.
