Microsoft to spin off Chinese Xiaoice chatbot - report

Microsoft plans to spin off its Xiaoice chatbot in China into an independent entity, TechCrunch reported, confirming an earlier report from Chinese news site Chuhaipost. Under the intended deal, the new entity will license technologies from Microsoft for further research and development and be able to use the Xiaoice brand (and Rinna in Japanese) in Greater China, Japan and Indonesia. Microsoft will meanwhile retain its stakes in the new company.
