Milan metro company to roll out 210 km fibre network

Metropolitana Milanese, the engineering company that designs and constructs Milan's metro network, has reached an agreement with the city council and broadband provider Metroweb to create a 210 km-long fibre optic network to connect all its offices as well as the Milan San Rocco purifier. The aim is to connect sensors and meters running along Milan's underground water mains and sewers to collect real-time data on consumption and to improve management capacity. The fibre network will comprise a 10 Gbps high-speed master ring and three 1 Gbps secondary rings and is  designed to accommodate
