Milan to use sewage network to complete fibre-optic backbone

The metropolitan city of Milan has signed an agreement with wastewater services provider CAP Holding to use the underground sewage network to complete the last stretch of the metropolitan area's broadband backbone, reports website ADN Kronos. Under the terms of the deal, the final 210 kilometre section of the 2,210 kilometre network will be rolled out along the sewer system, resulting in significant cost savings. The last section of the network is set to be completed by the end of next year, said the report.
