Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk expands digital radio broadcasting

Monday 25 March 2013 | 10:18 CET | News
German broadcaster ARD's East German arm Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk (MDR) is expanding its digital radio (DAB plus) activities, Teltarif.de reported. In conjunction with network operator Media Broadcast, it plans to bring four new transmitters on stream by April and possibly before Easter (31 March). MDR plans to put regional studios in Bautzen and Chemnitz on air, too. Its output for the Sorb minority will get a DAB plus channel, having only been receivable in Lausitz so far. MDR also plans to start a station in Saxony called MDR Extra, which will feature events such as parliamentary debates.
