Wednesday 30 December 2009 | 00:51 CET | News
The mobile penetration rate in China has reached 54.3 percent in November, The People's Daily Online reports citing figures from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The number of mobile users went up by 97.32 million in the first eleven months of this year to 739 million. The number of fixed-line users, however, dropped by 22.07 million to 318 million with a penetration rate of 24.4 percent. The drop is caused by the sharp decrease in PHS users, which decreased by 20.6 million to 48.86 million between January and November.
