Mobistar to start checking ID at prepaid sales

Friday 22 April 2016 | 10:04 CET | News
Belgian operator Mobistar announced it will start verifying the identity of new prepaid customers before selling them Sim cards. CEO Jean-Marc Harion said the company will start the policy by the end of June, and not wait for the proposed change in legislation to take place. Harion said he already alerted the government about the security risk from anonymous Sim card sales last year, at the time of the Thalys attack and after the Paris attacks. Talking to La Libre Belgique, he said he didn't understand the delays in changing the law, which will require all prepaid customers to be identified.
