Moldova pay-TV sales up 5% to MDL 83 mln in H1

Moldova's pay-TV sales increased in H1 by 5 percent year-on-year to MDL 82.6 million due to IPTV networks' sales, according to data from telecommunications authority Anrceti. The total number of subscribers increased compared to the end of 2018 by 3.1 percent to up 339,900.

IPTV sales increased by 13.6 percent year-on-year to MDL 43 million. At the same time, the sales made by the cable network providers decreased by 3.2 percent to MDL 39.5 million, and the revenues obtained from the sale of services through MMDS technology decreased by 29.1 percent to MDL 52,400. Following this evolution, ARPU for pay TV services increased by 2.1 percent to MDL 41.3.

The increase in the total number of subscribers was determined by the increase of IPTV users by 7.6 percent to 171,200. At the same time, the cable subscriber base decreased by 1 percent to 168,400, and users of MMDS technology decreased by 38.7 percent to 280. As a result, the penetration rate of pay-TV services, compared to 100 households, increased by 1.7 percent to 36.8 percent.

At 30 June, 50.4 percent of the total number of subscribers used IPTV networks, 49.5 percent used cable TV networks, and 0.1 percent used MMDS technology. The share of subscribers receiving the digital TV signal reached 66.6 percent, while the share of analog TV users was 33.4 percent.

In terms of turnover, Moldtelecom was market leader with 35 percent, followed by Sun Communications with 16.4 percent, and TV Box with 14.8 percent. The cumulative market share of the other suppliers was 33.8 percent.
