MOTOROLA AND OTHERS TO DEVELOP INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA

Scientific Atlanta (Norcross, GA), Motorola (Schaumberg, IL) and Kaleida (Mountain View, CA) have reached a deal to develop open-architecture hardware and software for multimedia and interactive services to the home via cable TV networks. The three firms will offer new consumer-oriented cable TV services, including education programmes, information and shopping. Scientific will design servers, terminals and networks with Kaleida's ScriptX multimedia programming language. Motorola will include its PowerPC microprocessor.
