Motorola deploys GSM network in Eritrea

Motorola announced the deployment of Eritrea's first GSM wireless network in conjunction with EriTel, the country's sole mobile operator. EriTel's network provides coverage to the capital city of Asmara, in addition to the transport routes to the ports of Massawa and Assab and to Eritrea's southern and northern region. EriTel plans to extend the coverage to the entire country by the end of 2004. EriTel expects an estimated 65,000 new customers to adopt its cellular service in the first few years of operation.
